| The Villa |

| The Villa and Village
The villa was originally built at the end of the Renaissance. It has four large bedrooms, a kitchen, dining room, large living room, study, parlor and acres of land. It is located in a little Italian village at the foothills of the Alps called Arba. This quaint town dates back to the twelfth century. It is also only an hour and a half from one of the most remarkable, exciting cities in the world - Venice.

The Room and Board
The program will be family like, consisting of only 3-6 people. It will immerse you into Italian lifestyle unlike the pensiones, hotels, or schools in Italy's cities or tourist traps.

All meals are included Monday mornings through Thursday afternoons.
Continental breakfasts, delicious Italian lunches and three course dinners will be served during the weekdays while classes are in session. A large kitchen can be shared by everyone at all times. The group will enjoy a personal, family-like atmosphere. Dinner parties will be given at the villa where local Italians will be invited. Conversations may be in Italian at mealtime and will be considered additional practice time or 'lab.' |
The Italian Language Lessons & Cultural Activities
The language lessons will consist of up to two hours a day of Beginning Italian. The schedule will be Monday afternoons to Thursday mornings so as to allow long weekends for travel. The classes will be taught in very small groups of only three to five. This will enable a great deal of individual instruction, catering to the personal needs of each student. Interesting, fun and useful information on Italian culture, art, music and travel will be a major topic in class discussions.
Cultural activities include "Maniago Mondays," a weekly bus trip to a large open air market. This nearby beautiful town is nestled at the heels of the Alps. Then we'll have lunch and a lesson in an Italian cafe. "Udine Tuesdays", is another excursion, where students can shop in trendy stores, dine in fancy restaurants and just enjoy a day in the big city.

To add to Arba's small town charm, old custums have remained for centuries. The town has a weekly open fresh food market for grocery shopping and a summer outdoor festival from late July to mid August. This festival offers live music, dancing, wine, food stands and picnic style eating. You'll get a real taste of Italian life! | |

The classes are taught by an experienced language teacher who taught in public schools in New York City for five years. She is state certified to teach ESL on all levels and is fluent in Italian. She studied abroad for two years in Florence, Italy as an undergraduate at the University of Maryland. She also has a Master of Arts Degree from New York University. She graduated from N.Y.U.'s School of Education in 1992, where she studied the Methods of Language Teaching and the Stages of Language Acquisition.

The Extended Weekends
Extra long weekends will allow plenty of time to travel to many of the exciting nearby Italian cities - Venice, Trieste, Verona, Milan, Florence, Pisa, etc.! Austria, Germany, Slovenia, Switzerland and France are also great travel destinations before and/or after the program.

Thank you for your interest in the Live & Learn Italian Program. Sessions are booked weekly in the summer. I particularly book at the end of July to mid August, during the outdoor festivals in Arba. That is the best time to be in Arba, as it is the height of entertainment and party time! I am looking for three to five people for about two weeks. Special bonuses are given to group bookings. Services include room, board, Italian language & culture lessons with activities in a large charming villa near Venice. It is the best bargain in Europe and a great way to experience Italian culture.
